who am I?

A happy and healthy 90s baby, born weighing in at 8lb 12oz on the 6th of September, Daniel Carew began his life in what was once the small town of Berwick in Victoria, Australia.

As a young boy, Daniel was quite shy, always wanting to fit in and be liked by his peers, which often in times saw him bullied and left out. A strong leader at heart however, Daniel did his best throughout primary school to gain confidence, and began taking on roles as a leader wherever possible, making many friends along the way.

Daniel's confidence at progressing in his tasks began to rise, whether it was putting together a BMX bike or writing a short story in English, Daniel gave it his all. Daniel attended Hallam Valley, Berwick Fields and Drouin Primary School during his lower level schooling before moving onto Drouin Secondary College until his completion of Year 11.

During high school, Daniel played football for many years alongside the Longwarry Crows, while also playing basketball for the Drouin Devils, winning the Grand Final in his very first season. While Daniels interest in sports was quite high, his interest in Music and Entertainment was also beginning.

A spark was ignited during an underage music festival Daniel attended called Goodlife, the very first multi stage outdoor music festival he had been too. A young DJ by the name of Will K, around the same age as Daniel played main stage to a crowd of thousands, and had Daniel asking the question, if he can do that, why can't he?

Daniel began studying every YouTube tutorial he could, downloading any music that was available and started saving any cash that he could come by... while also studying a Certificate III in Media/Radio Broadcasting which he received at the completion of Year 11 and working at his local community radio station with his own show, Planet Music on 3BBR FM.

About a month before Daniel was due to turn 16, he sold his dirt bike to fund his very first full DJ setup, that he would setup and practice on any chance he could. In time, this grew into a big collection of equipment and this equipment was used nearly every single weekend as Daniels calendar began to fill.

Getting his first few gigs locked in was not easy though, as it seemed people his age looked down on anything that was different, on anyone that wanted to take a chance. Many people would laugh at him, making him the star of their jokes through high school, however this slowly began to change once they attend a gig he was able to play for.
His close friends supported him with everything they had while people still tried to drag his passion for performing down, but this did just the opposite, the fire inside burned stronger, nothing was going to stop Daniel from succeeding and proving everyone who had doubts wrong.

Soon enough, Daniel managed to catch the eye of the local pubs and clubs in Warragul, and with promoting, he scored his very first 18+ weekly residency as a 17 year old on Friday nights (yep, footy was tough the next morning). This residency went on right up until Daniel turned 18, in which Nick Derrick, who was working at The Sporty, Daniels local club, agreed to putting Daniel on for half an hour, on his birthday, for his very first set as an adult. The opportunities that were given to Daniel during that time has kickstarted a very successful career of music and entertainment for the young DJ, who is now going into 2020 with 8 years of experience under his belt.

After turning 18, Daniel attended many different club nights whenever he could, introducing himself to people and making friends wherever possible, most times even driving to the club and back on his own, desperate to pickup as much knowledge about the industry as possible. Among other venues, Daniel began heavily promoting the club night Lucky Thursdays, a Uni night hosted weekly at Billboards Nightclub in Melbourne, after attending as a patron for over a year. In hopes of scoring a DJ slot during the night, Daniel knew this is what he had to do.

Eventually... he got it.

Daniel managed to score himself a 10-11PM set. Not quite the set he was hoping for, but nonetheless, he was unbelieveably stoked to be on. Not getting this gig until around 19-20 years of age, Daniel had a good amount of experience to give this time slot 110%. Daniel finished his set, receiving praise on just how good it was and how perfectly it set the vibe. This continued at Lucky Thursdays until he received a chance at a headline spot, which he also smashed, securing that Thursday night residency.

Daniels talent for reading crowds and being able to play a range of genres didn't go unoticed. After many successful gigs throughout Melbourne and surrounds, Lucky Ent. called him into the office and offered him a spot to sign on as an artist, which he was absolutely humbled to take.

As they say, the rest is history!

Daniel has grown immensely as an artist and performer over the years. He continues to play amazing shows throughout multiple venues across Australia, as the Carew name grows from someone who just plays a DJ set. The people around Melbourne know to expect anything but boring when the name Carew is around, and have begun to associate it as a look, a vibe, an energy, a sound... a BRAND.
